We spent 3 nights in the city of Jaisalmer, also known as ‘the Golden City’ because of the sandstone used in the architecture. Located in this city is the Jaisalmer Fort, which is a ‘living fort’ meaning people live in dwellings and work/own shops within the fort. The fort was built in 1156 AD and is quite remarkable. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This city is located in the state of Rajasthan, which is known for its unique textiles, fabrics, and delicious food. India’s only desert, Thar Desert, is located here as well. I fell in love with the textiles here and bought a few pieces to take back to the US. Every piece is a work of art, in my opinion! They can be used as a bed cover, wall hanging, and some people even sew loops on the end to create a curtain.
Jaisalmer is very close to the country of Pakistan. We stayed 2 nights in Abu Safari Hotel and one night in the desert near the Sam Sand Dunes. We traveled to the sand dunes by camel and I am creating a post dedicated to our overnight safari. It was AMAZING and Dylan’s favorite part of his trip here in India.
