This place is amazing! Read more about it here. Also, I have added captions to some of the photos to point out important details. Enjoy :
Entrance dome of Humayun’s tomb.
More tombs.
Stars
These crypts are located outside pthe perimeter of Humayun’s tomb. The doors lead to crypts and some had tombs outside of the door, like in this photo.
Part of the tomb that represents the direction of Mecca.
Rooftop tomb
Tombs. The closed portion of the wall, behind the tombs on the left represents the direction of Mecca, which faces west (as opposed to the lattice window to the right and all around the circular perimeter of the buildings).
Stars
Delhi was so hot that day. I felt like I was inside a sauna.
Much needed after a hot day in Delhi.
Stars are seen throught the buildings, as it represents the cosmos, heaven, and paradise. (Islamic cosmology)
These symbols look like the Star of David, but they are not. They are 2 triangles and representative of the merging of male (shiva) and female (shakti) energy. Why hindu symbolism on an Islamic building? Because Humayun’s tomb was built by his son, Akbar. Akbar merged Islamic traditions with Hindu traditions to create his own doctrine during his reign in India.
